People speak about people.
That’s no new thing.
People like to speak about people.
And, What people speak about us while we are in the room matters, but, what they speak when they are not in the room matters even more.
Infact, The above line is inspired by Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos who said that a personal brand is what people say about you when you are not present in the room.
So, The real question is: Do we need to have a personal brand at our workplace?
The answer according to me is: HECK YES!
I mean just imagine at your job, It’s being decided that who’s going to be promoted and there’s a discussion happening about this and you and two others are in the run for getting promoted.
So, Now, The top level executives are going to talk about each employee.
So, If you have created a great personal brand for yourself, then, of course, You are going to have the edge over others.
Or maybe, Let’s take one more case: Let’s imagine that you leave a company and have gone for another company to work for.
You have left your old job and have given the interview for the new job at a new company.
The new company is a bit confused as to whether they should hire you or not.
They are happy about your technical expertise, but, are not quite sure about your personality.
So, They are a bit perplexed.
So, The new company’s HR decides to call your old company’s boss and get some details about you.
The HR makes the call. The boss sees an unknown number and picks it up.
The boss is informed about the situation and is asked about you.
Now, This is a spontaneous situation.
The boss didn’t knew that he/she was going to get this call.
So, What do they speak?
Well, As they didn’t prepare for this unprecedented/unexpected call, They will answer what they really think about you.
And, Believe me, Guys, If in all those days at your old company, If you were doing great, were always kind, respected everyone, worked hard i.e had a great personal brand, then, the boss is bound to give a great answer about you.
So, BOOM!You will get the new job because of your old boss.
